Saint Berdoodles

About Saint Berdoodles

Saint Berdoodles are a combination of a Saint Bernard and a Poodle.

Saint Berdoodles are similar to Bernedoodles in that they are large, gentle, and affectionate. They are wonderful family dogs and are great with children.

While the Saint Berdoodle is a large dog, they are known for their compassionate and empathetic nature and they thrive on being an integral part of the family. They do best when they can be around other family pets or family members for the majority of the time.

Saint Berdoodles are great with people of all ages, including kids. The only concern with these dogs is their size with very young children with accidental stepping or sitting.

They are a combination of the laid-back attitude from the Saint Bernard and the inquisitive nature and higher energy of the Poodle. In general, they like to go outside and play or walk, but are then very happy to come inside for a nap!

Breed Characteristics

Sizes - Typical adult weight can range between 20-110 pounds, being classified as miniature, medium, or standard. This is dependent on the size of the parent dog, typically the Poodle, which can range from a Toy, Miniature, Moyen or Standard. Mini Saint Berdoodles are typically 20-40 pounds, Medium 40-60 pounds, and Standards can be from 60-110 pounds.

Activity Level - These dogs have a moderate activity level. They love to go for a walk but don't need as much exercise as the Bernedoodle or the Aussiedoodle.

Colors - F1 Saint Berdoodles can be black, black and white, brown, brown and white and/or merle, dependent on the color traits of the Poodle. Merle is a pattern rather than a color. Merle appears as patches of light and dark colors mixed. The merle pattern can appear on any of the colors mentioned here. While the Saint Berdoodle has lovely colors, if you're looking for an exotic specific coloring, the Bernedoodle might be a better choice.

Generations - There are F1, F1b, F2, F2b and multi-gen Saint Berdoodles. The F1 generation is achieved by breeding a Saint Bernard and a Poodle. It is thought to be the best in terms of health benefits because mixing two completely different breeds minimizes the hereditary diseases of both breeds in the puppies and is also the most stable for coat type.

The F1B Generation is the crossing of an F1 Saint Berdoodle with a Poodle, and is thought to be better for allergies because of the higher concentration of Poodle. Half of the F1B generation puppies will be curly and the other half will be wavy like the F1, so it is important to know which type you're getting if you need to worry about allergies.

Grooming Requirements - Like all Doodles, Saint Berdoodles will require grooming every 2-3 months, depending on the curl of their coat. Curlier puppies in the F1B generation will require grooming about every 2 months, while wavy puppies of the F1 and F1B generations can usually go about 3 months between groomings.
